چکیده

The damaging competition between crops and parasitic weeds has a negative impact on agricultural productivity; however, the of disturbance soil’s microbial community received less attention. Hence, this study investigates composition diversity maize rhizosphere infected with Striga hermonthica using shotgun sequencing approach from two maize-growing fields (Eruwa, Nigeria Mbuzini, South Africa). soil DNA was extracted infested Nucleospin genomic extraction kit sequenced an Illumina platform. dominant phyla were Actinobacteria, Bacteroidetes, Deinococcus-Thermus, Acidobacteria, Chloroflexi, Cyanobacteria, Planctomycetes, Verrucomicrobia, Chlorobi, Proteobacteria, Firmicutes, Nitrospirae, Thermotogae, Synergistetes, Ascomycota, Euryarchaeota, Crenarchaeota. Bacteria observed to be higher proportion in samples obtained Striga-infested field Eruwa (Es) than those recovered Mbuzini (Ms). alpha communities indicated insignificance differences (p > 0.05) five taxonomical groups (phylum, class, order, family, genus), while beta produced significant = 0.01, R 0.52) difference soil. In summary, sheds light microbiome hermonthica-infested soil, which influences functions management sustenance plant health against weeds.

Evaluation of Striga-resistant Early Maize Hybrids and Test Locations under Striga-infested and Striga-free Environments

Emergence of several seed companies in the West Africa sub-region during the last decade has necessitated intensified efforts towards hybrid development and extensive testing. The objectives of the present study were to evaluate selected Striga-resistant maize (Zea mays L.) hybrids for grain yield and stability of performance based on multiple traits. Thirty Striga-resistant single–cross maize ...

Comparative analysis of bacterial community structure in the rhizosphere of maize by high-throughput pyrosequencing

In this study, we designed a microcosm experiment to explore the composition of the bacterial community in the rhizosphere of maize and bulk soil by sequencing the V3-V4 region of the 16S rRNA gene on the Illumina system. 978-1239 OTUs (cut off level of 3%) were found in rhizosphere and bulk soil samples. Rhizosphere shared features with the bulk soil, such as predominance of Acidobacteria, Pro...

Insights into microbial community structure from pairwise interaction networks

Microbial communities are typically incredibly diverse, with many species contributing to the overall function of the community. The structure of these communities is the result of many complex biotic and abiotic factors. In this thesis, my colleagues and I employ a bottom-up approach to investigate the role of interspecies interactions in determining the structure of multispecies communities. ...

Microbial Community Structure in the Rhizosphere of Rice Plants

The microbial community in the rhizosphere environment is critical for the health of land plants and the processing of soil organic matter. The objective of this study was to determine the extent to which rice plants shape the microbial community in rice field soil over the course of a growing season. Rice (Oryza sativa) was cultivated under greenhouse conditions in rice field soil from Vercell...
